Send a Child to Camp
An important part of our camp culture includes practicing habits of the heart. Camp is a community rooted in caring and compassion, and campers learn that what we do affects those around us. They come to believe that each of us can make a difference in the lives of others.
Many children will never embrace the enormous impact of camp on their lives, because they won’t have the opportunity to attend camp. We do activities at camp that enable our campers to understand that they can help provide a camp experience for underserved kids and that they can participate in acts of kindness --by swimming laps to fund camperships, by donating toys and books, by creating care packages for children in the hospital, by decorating sweatshirts for the homeless, and countless other caring projects. Raising both awareness and money to send underserved children to camp is consistent with everything we value at Coleman Country.
The Coleman Family actively supports programs that help provide children in need the edge to succeed in life through the summer camp experience.
The newest of Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang camps for children with life-threatening illnesses, located in Dotsero, Colorado, serves children with cancer, solid organ transplants, lung disease, and other harrowing diseases. Marla and George are founding board members as well as active volunteers. The camp opened its doors in 2011, and already there have been life-altering moments affirming the profound impact of camp on children. With a borrowed “Dream Big” mantra and a western theme of its own, we consider Roundup River Ranch a very special place with a very special connection to Coleman Country. In its first summer, we saw children who we didn’t know could walk go down a zip line – conquering their fears, building resilience, and finding comfort in the friendship of others who share their challenges. At Roundup River Ranch, in the Rocky Mountain wilderness, kids can be kids while they are there. That’s the power of camp.

Ross is a board member of SCOPE, Summer Camp Opportunities Provide an Edge – which has funded more than 10,000 children at not-for-profits camp in the past 15 years. The campers served by SCOPE escape from urban settings to secure camp environments which foster positive self-esteem, strong self-confidence, and appropriate social skills. They are inner city children who are selected by their teachers as good students with great potential.

One of the Coleman Family’s favorite camp destinations is Project Morry, which guarantees four years of camp and year-round mentoring and programming to encourage economically disadvantaged youth to cultivate their dreams and change their lives. Each summer, the Colemans pledge 25 cents for every lap swum by campers and staff during Morry’s Swim-a-thon. Last year, they added an additional $5,000+ to their annual contribution in honor of Coleman Country campers.
